ok all im new here so firstly if this is in the wrong section i do apologise,
but im looking to build a pc from scratch as my current set-up is on its last legs and i dont mind doing it over a longish period of time as a small project.

what am i looking for my new set-up to do?
well i do watch a lot of bbc iplayer 4od and the likes
i do have a reasonable music collection id like to put on and stream to my xbox360
i do need the ability to write dvd's for some amateur film making im going to be doing
and would like a reasonably fast upto date and future proof (in the respect to being able to upgrade at later dates)

my budget is quite low at around the £250-£300 area it can be stretched slightly as i can do a bit of overtime here and there as it will be a slight project so could any of you help me with a slight spec? also i do not need a monitor mouse keyboard as ill just use what i have for now.

thanks for your help guys
curtis :)

All honesty, £250-£300 wont get a lot.

Without pricing this is what I would recommend to you.

- Intel Core i3-2100
- Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 z68 motherboard (future proofing with PCIe3 and Ivybridge ready)
- 4GB DDR3 ram (which ever is on offer at the time of purchase)
- 2x Samsung spinpoint F3 1TB
- Branded 500w PSU
- CM elite 430 case

And thats hitting £400+

Obviously, you can start out small, but then it might not be up to the video editing task. (Ill get a spec now)

But I have no experience with the H67 boards, so cant comment on how well they perform.

£170 on a mobo for a cpu that cant be overclock?
get a i3 2100 + a H67

spec above is much better :)

He asked for something that is future proofed, so I gave him the current best 1155 mobo, which is Ivy compatible and with PCIe 3 and the cheapest "will do for now" CPU. Obviously if the H67 and i3 is good enough for the use intented, then there will be no need to upgrade.

thanks guys when i get to a pc ill have a good read thru and see if i need to up my budget a bit once again thanks guys :)

ok guys ive just looked over your recommendations and if it helps a few points worth mentioning.

1, regarding the video editing it will be very basic as in windows moviemaker will be more than up to the task of what i need for the projects i will be undertaking.
2, a 500gb HDD would not be a problem as i will be getting a external 1TB HDD at a later date the internal HDD would be just for the OS and any other programmes i would install.
3, i wont be overclocking this set-up as its not what i have planned for it, once its built and running i may be tempted to put more money into a 2nd pc with the aim of getting the most possible out of it.

would i have any issues with any of the above internals using this case? casecom 6788
