Ok I was going to build is nas box but have now decided to build an ubuntu server as I want it to do more things. I had another about the nas build not sure if I can delete it, I couldn't see an option.
I'll be using it for
Storage
Backup
720/1080p transcoding from plex server which requires "an Ubuntu or Slackware PC with an Intel Core Duo processor 2.4 Ghz or better
At least 2Gb RAM"
So far my shopping list is:
Motherboard: Intel DH67BL B3
Processor: Intel Core i5 2405S
RAM: Curcial 8GB Kit (4GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 CT2KIT51264BA1339
PSU: Seasonic S12II-380 380W
Case: Fractal Design Define Mini
I already have a wd20eads 2tb hdd and will buy some more. I'm considering getting an ssd of the os.
I'd like this system to run 24/7 but when idle to run with the lowest power consumption and as quiet as possible.
So do I need any more fans? a silent processor one perhaps?
What are your thoughts on the rest of the kit is the motherboard compatible with the case? as it says mini itx/micro atx
