First time with O2 retentions. Can I get a K800i?

I called up O2 today as I'd really like a K800i and my contract's almost due. Well it turns out I've actually got 6 weeks left and they wont entertain it until I'm in the last month.

The girl asked what phone I would like either way, and quoted a price of £179.99 which apparently wont budge even when I am in the last month. I'm a low value customer (Online 50, w/ £22pm avg. bill) but I still want a decent new handset :D

Any suggestions? She denied there'd be any leeway should I call back again in two weeks time.

ring around and find the best deal that you can that will give you a handset included in the deal.

then ring them back and tell them that if they cant match it, then you will leave..

if they dont match it, then leave.

I agree with the above - you might find they become more flexible once you float the idea of leaving with them. But you should be able to find a contract that gives you it for free if they won't budge...good luck! :)

Quite agree. With all the deals out there at the moment that sounds far too high. Im sure you can get a good contract deal with the phone thrown in for free. Always best to shop around as there are some with "Free X months Line rental".

Must you have O2, or would you mind switching to another network?

I tried very hard, so hard infact I now have my PAC code even though I didn't want to leave.

She said £179.99 (or was it £169.99?) time and time again. She would not budge even though I was offereing to go on a higher tariff or 18mths - anything for a deal!!

I'm on the Online 50 tariff too.

What annoys me off most is that my work mate got a call yesterday from Orange, he is 10mths into his contract and after a little banter had a K800 for free and £5 a month off his tariff (which is only now 25 a mth) He doesn't go over his allowance either, so he is a low value. He is sitting at home right now waiting for it to be delivered, he doesn't even want a K800 but just chose it to get to me :o

Magsy, I'd edit out the swearies lest you get popped by a Don

I know what you mean entirely, there's no rhyme or reason to it - sometimes it's worth terminating the call, waiting a little while and then trying again to see if you get a different CS rep.. they may give you a better deal, it can purely depend if the CS bod is in a good mood and/or got some last night :(

The lady I spoke to had a clear 'you want something for nothing' attitude. That was really not the case, I was willing to pay and I said that multiple times. I don't expect it for free but when they have it on their website for £69.99 on the same tariff I am on, how can they tell you its £169.99.

I told her I would cancel and take out another contract with O2 online, but because I couldn't keep my number by doing that I would have to move elsewhere. She then told me my PAC would be with me in 5 days, hehe :p

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't necessarily want to stay with O2 but I'd like a contract with inclusive MMS and a wee bit of GPRS. It's particularly galling that a new customer signing up to online 50 would only have to pay £70 for the handset -Maybe they want me to cancel and re-sign :p
