Hey all, thought I'd post here on my first attempt at Ubuntu - basically my old system has been sitting around not doing much - occasional video playback in the living room (its a phenom 9950 with a HD 5670 gpu and 4 GB ddr2 ram) and it came with vista home premium - which has been throwing up a lot of issues recently so decided to do a clean install of it to iron out some bugs - didn't work, so fed up I decided to use this opportunity to try out other OSs' - downloaded Ubuntu last night (13.1) and got it installed (few things were a bit awkward but most of the issues have been resolved today) however I still have one that's quite annoying - I'm connected to the internet via wi-fi - download speed last night was 0.5-1.5 meg but my upload was 10 meg (eh?) re-did the test today and I'm getting a very choppy 5 meg dl and a very solid 15meg upload (now on the same pc on a windows machine in the same place I can get 36-40 meg dl and about 19meg upload) so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on why the download speed seems to be limited (and erratic 1meg 5 meg 3 meg etc) and if so would you also have any solutions? (And remember my terminal usage consists of a very minor uses last night so can you explain things abit lol)
So, the main usage for this pc (or only use) is to be a HTPC - sit beside the tv and connect to my freenas server and stream (which is why I need to resolve the DL speed issue as I cant stream anything atm with such a low bandwidth)
I have installed the amd CCC (which solved the no sound problem I had last night) and XBMC (as an interface) - Now with XBMC I'm also trying to connect to my freenas server and dont seem to be able to - now I'm taking that this is because I've currently got the shares set up as windows shares and would have to create UNIX (NFS) shares for the Ubuntu OS? (I can connect to the minidlna share I setup to try and can access all media in this folder so I assume it is because the other files are under windows shares - just thought I'd ask to be sure)
