From boot up up my screen gets stuck on this message.....

0xC000021A is not just a W8 error, but my guess is some kind of automatic update has gone wrong. Anyway it is stuck on..."We'll restart for you...., but of course it does not.

Any thoughts on how I can get windows 8 back.

Did anyone at work find a solution?

I thought I may have found a solution as I managed to get this page to load..

And tried a system restore (16th Nov).. But the restore failed.

Wont your emails be stored on the server?

Good point. Yes they will, but I am new to thunderbird (my mail software). If I reinstall Thunderbird, will it automatically re-download the emails from my server?

I did a refresh. As expected it kept all my files and deleted all the programs, but the computer is now back up and running.

Yes, if its a hotmail/ gmail etc, your current emails ( unless you changed the settings) should all just be sitting on the server, and just a case of downloading them again.

Yep emails back. Time to put my programs back on again.
All this seems to be an overkill fix for what in essence must have been a software issue. If it happens again I am going back to W7.
