Any fans here? It's been some years since I've done it myself but feel the calm of freshwater fishing is something I feel could do with reaquainting with at some point later this year.

Anyone know of any good places to fish? I was thinking of maybe disappearing to the Lake District or something similar if I ever get the chance.

Been some time since the great white hunter embarked upon the quest for the 'monster pike'

I'd recommend the Norfolk broads/meers.

A days fishing was counted a success, no matter if I caught anything or not.

depends on what sort of fishing you wish to do and your location

I go fly fishing (and and waiting patieantly for the season to start) and for game fishing the lakes isnt as good as it used to be..though chances for proper wild fishing are excellent, a nice walk up to red tarn then a couple of hours fishing is great fun. but the pike fishing is excellent on some of the waters

I am lucky enough to live in the north east and northumbria water do an excellent job of stocking the pristine reservoirs we have here with trout, along with the premier salmon river in england and wales

there are more and more coarse fisheries popping up (especially carp waters) our rivers up here are more suited to game fishing than coarse fishing

I used to coarse fish but switched to fly fishing for the freedom it offers, no need for bait boxes, everything you need you can get in the pockets of your vest and you can wander all you like on the large upland reservoirs, somewhere like cow green you might walk 8-10 miles in the day and not see another soul (unless you are fishing with a friend)

I love the fishing! But this year I got lazy and didn't go too much.

From years ago my biggest haul on the rochdale canal.

Lucky sod :p Can't claim a catch anything near as grand as that, but I do have several stories about the one that got away... ;)
Did you knock it on the head or release it? On at least one occasion I had to dispatch magnificent looking pike because they had swallowed the hooks (mainly this was when deadbaiting, not spinning), I always felt a bit guilty over that - after all, had I struck a few seconds earlier the hooks/bait would not have been swallowed and could have been safely removed.
It's surprising how long a large fish can stay out of water then be returned.

Perch were lively little hunters for their size too, beautiful markings and much easier to catch without all of the heavy duty stuff for big pike.

im a big carp man myself and go as oftern as i can atleast twice a week head over to carp.com you will find all the info u need.

I fish, but only Fly/Spin inland on lakes and rivers and do a lot of Sea fishing, Beachcasting and Rock fishing from the shore and go out on Boats occasionally. Coarse fishing and Carp fishing just bores the snot out of me, got to be active all the time or I get bored too easily.

Not sure where you're located but here in North Wales all sorts of fishing is more than well covered both Fresh water and Sea, without knowing what you prefer or where you are it's hard to give any advice or places to go. :)

Used to do a lot of fly fishing on my local river and a few lakes, gave it up though when i took up shooting, been thinking about starting up again as i can afford it now.

Arnside and the Leeds Liverpool canal sums up my fishing experience. Also some other places in Yorkshire we didnt have Licences for :)

I used to fish loads.

Once caught a pike out of the Thames in Goring when I was 13. 19lb 2oz. I got my picture in the Anglers Mail and had articles written about it in both the News of the World and the Sunday Express. :)

My best is 25lb carp from farlows overnight, but not been for over a year! Carpforum is a great community.

Me and My Dad used to go all the time, I don't go as much now and he doesn't have the time (well he didn't have much time before but we'd always spend the weekend fishing and we both tend to be busy now)

Love it. Course fishing is relaxing and just nice. He used to do some fly fishing and the odd bit of sea fishing.

Would love to go again, fully intend to at some point this year.

I'm planning on trying to get away for some course freshwater fishing with a friend or two in a few months when the weather is a little nicer.

i was well into coarse fishing till the age of about 16 when i discovered over worldly delights, used to still go into my 20s but hardly ever nowadays.

Been on Irish fishing holidays on the Shannon and over tributaries, amazing days 100lb hauls of rudd and bream.

Im/I was very much a match fisherman, i much preferred quantity over size quality.
There was a place i used to go where id get 200+ Gudgeon (and a handful of roach) every session, i loved it, nearly, non stop. Got the odd Tench there too, quite a challenge when using a size 22 hook and 2lb line haha :)
