Fitness/workout tracking

I do a variety of "sports" intermittently and want to start keeping track again to help me increase my fitness and strength. At the moment I climb (indoors) and spend time at the gym (rowing, some weights and body weight exercises). I also cycle and ski on occasion and hike a reasonable amount.

I've used smartrunner in the past but was wondering if it's still the best option, especially in conjunction with a HRM and phone.

WRT HRM which one is the best option. I get 50% off polar so something like the H6/7 seems like the best option. On the other hand perhaps something with GPS built in rather than connecting to a phone?
