Fitting a dado rail, round a corner, going upstairs.

I’m losing my mind with this. I’m putting a dado rail up my stairs, but I can’t figure out how to cut the rail to fit in the corner and create a seamless join.

You go up my stairs with the wall on the right, then turn 90 degrees left and continue going up.

I’ve watched every video (it feels like) on YouTube and no one seems to be doing what I’m trying to do. Is it impossible?

Help!

No idea, I would have paid someone to do it by now, but dado rail, proper retro. :)
Yea, I’m kinda getting to that point! We put a picture rail up in the living room and liked it so she wanted the hallway done. Just this final bit to do!
We like a lot of colour (ask me about my gold ceiling!) and texture so we think it works in the house.

Get an adjustable square to get the right angle on the end of each piece

Yea, this seems to be the only option. To have a straight bit and then the diagonal, then straight then diagonal. Unfortunately, I’ve not got a lot of room as you can see to put a straight bit on but it may look ok with a small one.

Ah, yea a compound cut makes a bit of sense. I’m using a manual mitre saw so don’t think it’ll be possible without a new piece of equipment. Not against buying an electric mitre saw though… shame I’ve done all my dado rails and picture rails I’ve planned already and this is the final piece!

I’ve looked at the coping saw way as well and just can’t get my head round that either but haven’t actually had a go. This is my first ever foray into carpentry and it’s definitely not my skill set.
