Fitting an ssd in my laptop

Im soon going to fit an crucial 128gb ssd into my laptop and hopefully reinstall windows using my laptop product key
can i use my 500gb hdd that came with the laptop and use it in a caddy or something,as an external hdd,will this work,?

Yes, once you have all the gen off it, format to NFTS you will be good to go.

that caddy looks really nice, however does it require 2 USB connectors? I assume 1 for power, 1 for data?

The cheaper one I got runs off a single USB

Ok thanks for replys,do i have to format ?,i was hoping just to use it as an external Hdd in the caddy, or do you think i should put all my music/photos etc to cd s and then format getting rid of the old windows

shouldn't need to format, just delete the stuff you don't want.
