I have managed to source a new backbox following my questions in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17595312&highlight=clio

As you can see in the following picture, the pipe where the exhaust has came apart is very corroded:

Now, the backbox I have ordered comes with a sleeve. I am guessing its just a case of mating the new backbox up with the original pipe with the sleeve over the two and getting an exhaust clamp to hold it together? The garage who did not diagnose the original problem have said its a 30 minute job and would charge £20 + VAT, but I fancy trying to fit it myself if I could. I have changed discs and pads before so I have some experience, obviously im not a mechanic quite yet :p

Regarding the end of the corroded end of the pipe, is it just a case of getting an angle grinder to get rid of the corrosion? Do I need anything else apart from the backbox, sleeve, and clamp?

Possibly not, but if I can save £20 and learn something in the process then why not :) Obviously if I am out of my depth I will leave it to the garage.

I would imagine its a case of simply lining up the new box to see how it will join other section of the exhaust. Cut the old exhaust pipe in the appropriate spot and then simply sticking backbox on the rubbers and then using the sleave to join it all together making sure its lined up and not going to rattle against anything. May or may not need a little bit of putty smeared to seal it 100%. Backbox should be easy enough to fit if you can access underside of car ok.

Make sure u put lots of exhaust putty on the join, this'll insure the exhaust doesn't blow at the join. Ive done 3 or 4 backbox's now and im an 18 year old computer student! so if i can, then anyone can :D
