Buying our first place using the government first buy scheme so it is a brand new property.

The kitchen comes with a cooker only so we have to buy washer dish washer fridge and freezer.

We want built in appliances so the kitchen looks better.

The builders have a price list to install this stuff for ridiculous prices.

750 for a washer
750 for a dish washer etc

They do all 4 installed for £2500 which is a bit ridiculous :)

I've priced some up that come in at 950 for the appliances. They supply doors for 150 each.

So 1500 for all appliances and doors. This leaves fitting to us.

How hard is it to fit this stuff or how much would it cost to get someone in to do it?

It must be cheaper than what they are wanting.

Thx for any help.

I appear to have been £615 to have a Siemens built dishwasher installed as part of my new build 3 years ago, so it does seem to be the going rate.

A fridge freezer is very expensive to fit as it needs at least one full height panel, plus doors.

Replacing a 600 cm wide cabinet with an integrated dishwasher door should be around 0 cost though...

What do you get if you don't want them fitted? Will they plumb in a DW/WM if it's freestanding, or at least leave a space with a cold supply for it?

You might be able to wrangle them to do that and then afterwards get integrated appliances and get doors for them elsewhere.. if you can find out who makes the kitchen.

Edit : If they'll supply it but not fit for 1K less then get someone in to do it. It'd cost you way less.

What brands?

Not sure of the brands of top of my head as I'm in bed.

If I don't get anything from them I just have 4 empty units with no doors.

Fridge and freezer need to be separates and there is no space for free standing stuff (only the spaces in the units)

They should have plumbing behind the washer but not 100% if it will be where the dish washer will be.

I agree with OldCoals here! The appliances you pick could be considerably better than the ones they pick. I'm a Which? subscriber so if you want any specific information looked up about brands etc then feel free to ask and I'll see if it's there. That said I think there's at least a couple of people who work/worked with them so they'll know the score.

Thanks for that.

Any one any advice getting someone in to fit everything? Most importantly washer and dish washer. Maybe 50-100 for a plumber?

We always recommend that each appliance has a power socket behind it and the required plumbing fittings. the idea being that you pull out the appliance and you can get to the power and water. You would be amazed at how often this isn't done!

£100 fitting per appliance is a fair price.

Well, when I got my kitchen done I paid a bit for that, plus an isolating switch on the wall above each appliance. However is the cost they're charging for the supply and fit of appliance, plus door... which would mean if they're leaving it empty for an appliance to be slotted in afterwards they'll still need to put a socket and cold supply in?

I paid less than £100 per appliance for fitting, even accounting for wraggling in a electricity and fitting a socket and isolation switch.

The plumbing should be there already in which case it wouldn't be too hard to do.

I've fitted washing machines, dishwashers and fridge freezers in to houses/flats I've bought. It's always awkward but not technically difficult.

The apartment isnt built yet so I'm not 100% sure exactly what will be there but I assume a plumber will be able to sort any plumbing in?

Developers sometimes use brands you don't see on the high street, that way they can get away with charging over the odds.

When we had our new kitchen we invited 10 companies round to give us a price.
4 of them got to the next stage which was the Domestic Appliances part and 3 of them offered names I'd never heard of.
Now bear in mind that I tested most brands in a professional lab for over 2 decades and sent those results to Which?
All 3 got booted out of the house when they would say "We can do an integrated Buff (name made up) washing machine at £1100" and I'd turn round and type it into Google and see the unknown Czech brand for about £300.
Get out of my house.

There's brands that some of the big kitchen places use that aren't real brands. They just buy in the cheapest they can find and stick the label on, so there's no way to even tell who made it.

You may not be getting ripped off Utajoker, but it smells like it.

I just wish there was a way for you to easily cut through it all, but it sounds as if they set things up so that you end up going for their deals.

You've already been thoroughly shafted by the developers, what's a little post coitus kissing ?

Seriously ... you've bought a house through the FirstBuy scheme and now you are looking at the prices of things and considering them ridiculous ?!?
