Got my Conroe 6600 on an ASUS PW5 DH in an Akasa Mirage Case. First fitted it with a Arctic Freezer 7 HSF and managed to break one of the little plastic feet that fix it to mobo. I get a "CPU Fan Error" on POST, but fan still seems to work but I get high temps of 50 degrees Idle.
So I went out yesterday and bought myself a scythe ninja plus (after seeing people talk it up in this forum).
Ive just read the instructions and for LGA 775 it looks like I need to take the mobo off the mobo plate of the Mirage and fit the ninja backplate to the back of the mobo!
This means basically taking the entire machine to bits (all cards off, all cabling out) just to replace the HSF! Have I understood it wrong or do I have to do this to fit the ninja?

The board has to come out as the back plate needs to be fitted. (you need 3 hands to do this or use your knees like i did ;)) Make sure the plastic washers are in place too.
I would also suggest fitting the hsf outside of the case easier to fit plus you won't slice your hands on them fins. :)

yes it does, but the mobo is attached to the tray. I need to take the mobo off the tray to get to the back of the mobo and fit the backplate.

Taking the mobo off the tray means removing all cards and leads...
