FitXR is now a subscription app, and users aren't happy.

FitXR (formerly BoxVR) is now a paid subscription app at $9.99 a month (not sure yet of the UK price).

Bear in mind that is for a single game, and not for a library of games like Microsoft and EA offer.

This has left a lot of existing users unhappy (including me), as we thought we were buying a single purchase game, with the option of DLC packs.

Now it's a subscription service, and though existing users should still have access to the content of the original game, it means the entire focus of the app has changed, and if you don't sign up you face being nagged to sign up every time you play.

Plus the DLC packs are now no longer available, so the only way to expand the workouts is to pay for a subscription, and lose them if you stop paying.

Unfortunately the devs have form for just changing the entire game, and removing features without telling their customers. They did it when they changed BoxVR to FitXR the first time, and they've also abandoned the Steam version of BoxVR.

I used to recommend this game as one of the best workouts in VR. I simply can't recommend it any more.

i can see why existing users are annoyed, on other hand, I quite like free trials and ambitious content roadmaps, so if subs incent those two last things it takes the edge off personally

Yeah, I have no problem them launching a subscription only app, but to convert a paid app to subscription without warning is appalling.

Imagine if Beat Saber was converted without warning to a subscription app, they completely messed up the UI, and made it impossible to filter your tracks by difficulty or album, and mixed up your previously paid for content with content you have to subscribe to. That's what's happened here.

Got an email about all these new subscription services a couple of days ago. Rec room and Tripp also have some sort of sub model.

i heard something recently about Facebook doing Subscriptions

i wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee for any game on the quest
there was one i saw, which i understood , thats online training , and you use your bike, treadmill etc etc

I'm generally against piracy but I feel absolutely no shame in obtaining a copy of the app from when it was still BoxVR and sideloading it in this case.

That is, after all the app that I gave Oculus money for.

I wish they'd give users the option of getting Box VR back. That worked great.

Had the trial, okay. But it led me to test supernatural tutorial, and it's 'awesome' much better than fitxr. And really great visuals and song choice .But not licensed for UK due to music.

Not really any excuse for fitxr to not liscence proper music if they are charging subs now?

It gets even better. Apparently some users are being charged for their first month, even though they supposedly have a 90 day free subscription.
Though that's likely Oculus's fault.
