I'll use my lights when I want. :(

Uhm.. Halogen desk lamp, toasty and warm.. :p

what about the huge surge in usage when everything gets turned on again after the 5 minutes?

surely this will have a negative effect?

pointless.

Tree hugging hippies no way am I doing that. Apart from co2 being a small small small part of the problem. It is very hard for the public to make any impact what so ever. Things need to be done at government level and I'm not talking about new taxes.

The easist is packaging. Less packaging less raw materials, less energy to process raw material, less space consumed so more per lorry, less petrol used in delivering. Less rubbish so less to transport again.

Simple things like that would be much more worth while rather than changing your 4x4 to a micra as that doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

Why not force the Severn barrage. either we have to burn fossil fuels or destroy local eco systems. We can't have it both ways.

I'm not the least bit worried about global warming, however I would like to see reductions in resources and especially harmfully pollution. Ban diesels for a start.

All new houses should be built with one of the following by x year, heat exchange pump, wind turbine or solar panelled roof. And By A future X date made to be built with all 3.

Car pollution could be axed by taking out traffic lights and other systems that just don't work and cause traffic jams.

If I remember I may do this, though it will mean missing the end of Hollyoaks :D

I hope Patsy Hewitt doesn't get wind of this, or it will probably be the next cost-cutting measure introduced to the NHS

Not surprising that that email came from "a girl at uni".

Some students have got nothing to do apart from sit around in computer rooms sending annoying group emails to everyone. I lost count of the number of "save the planet" and "isn't Bush awful" group emails I received at university. I usually sent them back to the person they came from telling them not to fill my inbox with such pseudo-political guff.

If there was that much of a change the problem would be what happens during the 5mins.
Our core generating capacity can't be altered quickly and all that power has to go somewhere..
