I'm trying to find the Five-O police forums but I can't seem to find a URL for it anywhere, does anyone have it bookmarked or can remember the URL?

Could this mistake not be down to the fact you have an illegally spaced numberplate?

Would that really matter though providing the letters are the correct font and size?

Muncher said it was the first letter that he got completely wrong, the spacing on the plate wouldn't really matter surely...

They are not - the plate is smaller, the font is smaller, and it's spaced to read something other than what it is.

Personally, I'd not want to rock the boat. Think yourself lucky you've not been done for the plate, pay the fine, and move on :)

there are very specific regs concerning plates.
size of plate, characters and their spacing are all detailed.
can't remember what the fine is for infringement but IIRC it's not a great sum of money.

Do have the right to take your private plate off you though.
They can take any plate off you if you're caught repeatedly, sticking you on a Q plate. Which'll shaft the resale value.

Reasonably, why?
because in the UK the plate denotes the age of the vehicle.
Q stands for questionable in as much as the exact age of the vehicle cannot be determined.
i've never heard of anything being given a Q for any reason like the above.

Yeah, you can be put onto a Q plate.
on what grounds?
the age of your vehicle wouldn't be questionable at all.if they were going to remove your private plate then surely you would be given a "dead" plate relative to the year your vehicle was registered?

The plate has nothing to do with it, be got the first letter totally wrong.

It is incorrectly spaced, but the sizing is legal as is the font. He wasn't bothered by it. Funnily enough he didn't look at the front of the car to find no front plate either.:p

Don't know tbh, all I know is this, from oldcodger who is a JP..

As I understand it courts have the power to rescind a specific reg number if the user has been taking up a lot of police time with wrong spacing, fonts etc.

As these offences are not endorseable there are a number of folk who are quite happy to pay an FP every now and again in order to display their personalised plates.

The Q reg will actually be issued by the DVLA.
