Five recent shots + a 6th
Truth be told I've hardly been out much since I got my D2x back in January, due to an increase in work.
Thankfully thats all over now and things are getting back to normal, so I thought I'd share a few of the shots I've been taking when I have had the chance to use the camera. I'm trying to slowly steer myself away from wildlife only and to explore other types of photography, if for no other reason than so my others lenses get some use for once lol
All taken with the D2x and the weapon of choice for each one listed under the photos.
This is a stray cat that my sister has pretty much adopted. She's been named Dusty as she is always covered in it as she lives in the garden (scared of the dogs, bless).
Sigma 105mm macro, I spot metered off the eye to get the exposure right for this one as all the black was causing problems. This is ISO 800 too, which performed much better than expected!
My first ever flower photo and its....a daisy! Almost broke my neck trying to look through the viewfinder with the camera on the floor in my sisters garden.
Sigma 105mm macro again - brilliant lens, very very sharp!
My sisters little girl, she was watching tv on the sofa so I called her name and she looked over without moving her head - which was handy as I was resting the camera on my knee at 1/20th second f/2.8 and again ISO 800.
Sigma 105mm again!
Wanted a nice pheasant shot for ages so was pleased to finally get something worth keeping! I slowly crawled up to him whilst he was busy entertaining his 3 females! A neutral background would have been nice to show of his colours but I quite like the overall tone of this shot thanks to a low, late afternoon spring sun.
Nikon 200-400 VR
I get bored of plain blue sky bird in flight shots, probably because thats what most of the ones I take seem to be...
I quite liked this though because of the blur to the wings which made it 'slightly' different. The trick to exposing birds in flight on a clear sky is to dial in a +1 or even +1.3 exposure compensation.

So there you have it, a couple of recent shots to give you an idea of what I've been doing when I can.
