Thought this could be useful if anyone encounters the same issue as me.

When I got Assassin's Creed it initially ran very well. Recently it had been pausing for up to 5 seconds, usually when you make a kill or collect a flag etc. I was baffled at first but a bit of googling found me a fix.

Disconnect the internet or block the assassins creed exe with a decent (not Windows) firewall. I was amazed. Simply unplugging my ethernet sorted the problem. I dread to think what the game's started doing in the background that it didn't used to.

The game is in dire need of another patch. I have to Alt Enter in just to get it to run in full screen, the exiting process is ridiculous, and now this. Oh and it only recognises Wired not wireless 360 controllers by default. ridiculous!

Hmm interestingly I dropped back last night from cat 8.10 to 8.9 drivers for this same reason, the game seemed to play flawlessly until I killed somebody then it would stop for 4-5 seceonds and start again.

I was sure that I was playing it fine on 8.10 the other night as well. Seems it wasn't my driver after all.

Switched from 8800GT to HD4850 while troubleshooting a crashing problem. I don't need to alt-enter now. "The Way It's Meant to be Played". Marvellous.

It's not pausing either now but I think that was down to a problem with a Ubisof server. I think something similar to the 360's achievements code was running when you made kills or collected flags etc. Spyware basically.
