Does anyone have a fix for my headphones not muting the internal laptop speakers when plugged in?

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 but have the same problem on Fedora 9, Mint and OpenSuse!!!!!

If you go into properties in the mixer, you should (hopefully) see a tick box that says jack sensor (or something along those lines, just untick that box, and then it should route sound to both the internal speakers and headphones/external speakers.

There is no jack sensor setting anywhere, only master and pcm sliders which I have tried to no avail.

Have a look at this post from my website http://www.deltanova.co.uk/498/

I had a similar problem due to my audio chipset not being supported by the current version of alsa. I compiled the latest version of alsa as modules instead of using the in kernel version. I also needed to modify a line in /etc/modpobe.conf to tell alsa which hardware setup I was using.

Thanks I will have a look. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11M which uses Sigmatel Audio chipset for Intel HDA.
