Fix or Replace?

Hi all, so I have an MSI (MS-14A1) and it's been problematic for a while now.

Fans just go nuts then it cuts out. The part I think needs replacing is about £100 however I don't wanna screw it up by doing the job - especially if it turns out to be something else. Therefore wasted the £100 for the part and whatever i'm charged for it to be fitted.

So, do I go down the rabbit hole of repairs or just buy something else?

I don't game on it AT ALL and don't really intend to. It's mostly used for work on the rare occasion I go into the office.

I don't mind buying something new - but then do I end up with a better laptop if I repair it and just pay what it costs or am I throwing money into something that's better replaced.

I would like a windows surface as my last one was pretty decent to use - but then they're now £500 odd quid and I can't see the repairs costing that.... what to do what to do
