Onboard SatNav was crap compared to Google.

Now have Android Auto, and magnetic wireless fast charging for my phone.

Need to improve the finish of my build but works great.

Tapped 4 x 1mm magnets into the case of the phone.

Currently the wireless charger is taped to the Broddit Pro Clip.

Android Auto launches as soon as the Bluetooth connection to the UConnect is started.

Don't understand the fascination with android auto/carplay/screen mirroring etc as it means you have to take your phone out of your pocket and physically plug it in and unplug it everytime.

Much better to have the car do everything you need built in and then just have your phone connect via Bluetooth in my opinion.

True but the SatNav in my car is terrible.

My S8+ is too big to really leave in my pocket, and be comfortable.

I'm not sure I understand.

You've 'fixed your inbuilt satnav'? The pictures appear to show that you've 'stuck your phone on the dash'. How has this 'fixed' the inbuilt satnav?

It doesn't 'look great', it looks like you've slapped a phone on the dash blocking the vents

That's exactly what I thought lol.

:p

I needed somewhere to stick the phone. This is the least hassle solution, no putting in cables each time.

Air vent still works fine, phone sticks out enough for plenty of clearance.

I was tempted to superglue it straight onto the cars screen.

I've fixed the SatNav by no longer having to use it.

Pretty sure it was my constant use of my Z3 as a Sat Nav and constantly being charged in the car because of it that killed the battery.

i did try the whole built in phone mount with the z2- you could get nice cradles that held the phone securely and charged it.

but at the end of the day a proper inbuilt nav with bluetooth music is so much more convenient, just hop in and go.

I can't imagine how woeful my satnav would need to be before I'd put up with a setup like that instead of using it.
Google Maps is amazing compared to the car one.

Voice recognition from Google is nearly perfect.

Also has every point of interest, and can provide full opening hours etc.

The car one tried to take me down a restricted pedestrian bridge. The voice recognition is like it's speaking Italian.

Worst part is it keeps saying Please with everything.

Google Maps / Waze is amazing compared to my car's nav, but I'll still use it unless I specifically need the advanced traffic routing that Waze etc offer. It's just... nicer.

I used to prefer Google maps to all the built in satnavs as it does decent rerouting and is much easier to use than any built in as well. Sorry but most built in's including BMW and Merc are woeful compared to android.

Dunno i love the built-in satnav in are focus. Gives me live traffic updates, road closures, accident etc. Clever thing.

If you buy a car with Android auto and obviously have to plug them in do the cars support both USB c and micro USB?

For me, plugging the phone in gives the extra bonus of charging while on the move, as well as carplay for satnav (that doesn't need updating via the car manufacturer)

I'd think so, since the car just gives you a usb point.
