My ps3 wont read disks anymore, doesnt even show the drive in the XMB, so i presume it just needs a new laser?

How straight forward is it? Wondering about taking the drive apart (not looked at any guides yet), is it spring loaded or anything? Will it be a pain to get it back together or could my nan do it in her sleep?

If anyones done it, id like to have someone to fall back on if it all goes belly up lol :D

You need a special security torx screwdriver for 3 of the screws but other than that its pretty easy, took me 2 hours max - check out ifixit for details aswell as youtube - assuming you have a Slim as I did when I fixed mine a month ago...

Check out ifixit for guides, though for the Slim guide it only goes upto removing the BD-ROM, to replace the laser theres a few youtube vids out there, just youtube for your particular model BD-ROM...

I doubt the Phat is much more difficult, probably easier as its a bit more roomy inside, I know it still needs a security torx screwdriver though - just a different size...
