I've posted this in here as I don't think the audience in the Sound City subforum will necessarily be the right one.

To sum up, for many years I've had a set of Altec Lansing MX5021 2.1 speakers. These have pretty good sound quality at low listening volumes (my usual), and my desk setup just fits around them.

Unfortunately, for the past year or more I've had to tolerate a worsening clicking/popping sound coming from the satellite speakers. It has now reached a point where I have to do something about it. I've looked at replacing them with another 2.1 set or some bookshelfs, but I keep arriving at the problem of where to put them. It would really be easier if I could just fix these!

The clicking/popping (with a bit of hissing) is absolutely constant - no matter whether the volume is on 0 or 100%. It's there if I connect a sound source or not. It's there if I connect it to the same plug set as my computer, or somewhere else in the house. I am very sure it's coming from inside the subwoofer unit itself (where all the power stuff is).

My question is, when I open this thing up, what am I really looking for as the source of the problem?

Duff capacitors don't always show any signs that they are not healthy. If the ones inside are cheap chinese stuff like teapo or samxon etc, i'd be swapping the lot out for some new ones from panasonic, rubycon or nichicon.
