Fixing Curtain Pole To Ceiling

I have a curtain pole to fix to a ceiling in an alcove over 3m span. I've spaced the 3 supplied brackets as I want them and they all go into plasterboard.

Can anyone suggest appropriate fixings which will hold some fairly heavy curtains - bearing in mind the loading will be vertical, rather than horizontal.

Or would I be better off fastening a batten to the joists and then the curtain to that?

Can you access above the joists? You could always do something up there but to be honest I doubt a 3" 10 wood screw would really pull out if you got it in to the center of the joist.

Nope. The window is in an alcove, with a sloping roof above it - sort of like a bay window.

Currently, with how I've spaced the brackets, none of the screws go into woodwork/joists, just plasterboard. I'll need either a) fixings for plasterboard or b) another option (ie timber batten fixed to joists, then brackets fitted to that)

Most plasterboard fixing are designed for a sheer force rather than pulling so I think baton would be the best bet, painted PAR (planed all round) will look good too.

Personally I’d just bodge it with some decent plasterboard anchors.

Baton without doubt - last thing you want is heavy curtains pulling fixings out of ceiling.

Using plasterboard fixings relying purely on their pull out strength is going to end badly with a curtain pole with heavy curtains.

I'd fix a baton to the joists first.
