Fixing old pc

Trying to fix my old gaming pc I built around 5 years ago.

The problem is the pc turns itself on when the back power switch is on. It wont' shut down from the power button, only by the switch. When it turns on the motherboard makes a high constant pitch sound. Can't boot into windows or even get a display.

Any advice?

Boards had it.

The front panel cable for the switch is still in the same place as I assume it worked before ok?

Yup. Whats my cheapest option for a new motherboard? I want to try and turn this old pc into an HTPC.

Just put up an "1156 board wanted" thread in the Members Market and take whatever comes up. You won't find new 1156 boards anymore.

Don't have MM access anymore. I guess I could just buy a new motherboard bundle.

You could keep the RAM still and get 8GB later.

Just need a CPU+board.

Get new thermal paste to reuse the water cooler.

Fixed the high pitched noise by changing a few cables. But the pc still turns intself on by the power switch.

No display and all the fans go on full speed.
