any good sites or guides my old mission 700s .

my left hand speaker has just stopped no sound at all  thought it was amp at first but other speakers are fine .

are they fairly basic inside ?

I would suggest trying the speaker on the right hand output of your amplifier as pyropetepete previously mentioned,it may just boil down to a loose connection of some sort.
Complete sudden failure of a speaker is uncommon, more chance of blowing a tweeter from excessive volume,so it could be a faulty connection at the binding post or the crossover.
Did the amp go into protection mode?

Get a multimeter out and measure the resistance across the speaker terminals - should be about 6ohms.

If it's open circuit (which it probably will be) then open up the box, which will mean unscrewing the plate at the back to get at the crossover and have a look for dry solder joints or a broken wire etc. They're pretty simple things, but the chances are that one of the components on the crossover has broken and will need replacing.

It can't hurt to have a poke around though :)

Hmm, shouldn't be too difficult to fix your speakers. I have a pair of Heybrook HB150 bookshelf speakers that I bought around 2005 and they're still going strong. 2 years after purchase I discovered that one of the tweeters had gone.

So I purchased a pair of 8ohm Seas H414 tweeters for £45 from an audio component web site (don't remember which one it was) and borrowed a soldering iron and get a pack of the correct resistors from an electrical hobby shop.

I've not had any problems since and I still have a spare tweeter and resistors in case the other tweeter fails.

It can become very expensive with the larger sized drivers/woofers/tweeters and their specific diameter and fitting, you may be better off with whole new speakers, but most of the time, it's worth fixing them if you know how to use a soldering iron, have the security screw-driver bits you need and can get to a local electrical hobby shop for the correctly rated resistor.

Kind regards,

David

no basically had a lot of work done in house so moved around a few times and when put stero back together the left wasnt working correctly . first the sound came through but then while playing music it would sometimes just vanish or become quiet.

i thought that the amp was goosed but tried another set of speakers on the amp and they work fine. so i ended up testing each speaker seperately and the left one doesnt produce any sound :(

as they dont seem to complicated just wondered how easy it is to fix and what was the most common faults. shame to chuck them away cause they still are very good speakers

hmmmm stuck the meter on and i get same reading on each speaker of 5ohms  now what ?

thiught the one that would be broke would be different

well first thing took the 4 screws off the binding posts and thought it would be just a case of remove out the back when undone but the item inside is bigger than the hole :p so why they did that i am a little confused

the speakers at the front looks my only option and they have security screws on :( so its either find one of them or just get rid of speakers .

the cabinets are sealed aswell so it means i would have to crack the speaker cases to get in another way :( fail tbh :D

Yep,definitely get hold of the requires screwdriver/socket and pop out the drive unit and get access that way.Sounds like something as simple as a broken or failed connection inside the speaker.Hopefully all will become obvious when you have a root around....nothing ventured as they say.

well took speakers to pieces today checked with meter nothing broken  no dodgy solidering either. so fitted back together and all working :p very odd indeed.
