I'm trying to fix my wifes totally screwed Win7 PC. Slowly getting there but in trying to re-install Itunes I'm getting error code 2203, stopping the installation.

I know this is a security issue regarding permissions but I've tried every fix on the web I can find.
Before I do a fresh win7 install is there a fix that someone here has used that I could try?

Did you try:

  • Right click on Apple Software Update in the Start Menu and bring up the Properties Window
  • Select the Security tab
  • Select your Username (don't worry about what rights the computer Administrators group has, it does not apply here) and select Edit
  • After you pressed Edit, you should have a Window that shows all the computer groups (Administrators, etc.) and usernames (yours and other users (if any)) on your computer. Select yours.
  • Change your Rights to Full Control, press OK.
  • Press Apply, applying the changed settings to Apple Software Update, then press OK to close the Properties Window.

Sometimes it's quicker to do a complete scrub and reinstall rather than fix the actual problems.

I think you're right, shouldn't take too long as it's on an SSD. Her PC is a constant nightmare for me, she never reads anything during a program install consequently its full of rubbish.
I did a Malwarebytes scan and she had over 700 "threats" on her system.

just format the thing then, will make sure everything has gone and will be a lot quicker.

once its done and everything is installed do a image of the SSD and then if you need too just restore the image again

That is the easy option - if you want to save time do that. I myself like to learn and repair items if possible, it is very time consuming and sometimes unrewarding but when you do find a direct culprit you can add it to your library.

As I would do this for clients typically on laptops, many would want to keep the installation intact so wiping is not always the solution.

I like to learn too but there is a limit!

Wipe, set her user as a non admin account
I'd prefer her not to have a pc at all but she says she needs one for her iphone and sat nav updates, I'm not letting her within a million miles of mine.

Here other way to fix itune installation error 2203.

English translation :) First,go to the properties of "My computer" Second, go to advanced settings of the system Third, go to environment options / variables Then, rename the TEMP and TMP to TEMP1 and TMP1 Click OK and you're done. good luck !

If above method work then after reinstalled itune then you can go through steps again to renamed TEMP1 and TMP1 back to TEMP and TMP. :)
