flac converters?

You can convert flac with Foobar2000, you just need to download the flac codec and all that other stuff from here.

just today i tried a freeware program called Switch to convert an m4a to mp3 32-320kb vbr
(i tried it first with the imTOO converter, but it screwed the 'time' element of the file, it played fine but it said it was 26 odd mins, when in reality it was 5)

its a nice little tool, and it can handle flac files too

change output format to mp3, then change the settings to the same as this..

will be best quality + filesize, then add the files, and click convert!
add the id3 tags yourself in winamp or something

Sure you already know, but unless the originals are lossless you will of course lose quality every time you convert from one lossy format to another.

In anwer to the original question a small program called All2lame works great for converting FLAC to Lame mp3s. You will of course need to install the FLAC codec from Sourceforge first.

yeah i do know that thanks morfik, its just a one off, my mate sent me some songs of his band, and i've stripped my winamp so it only plays mp3, so needed to convert them

I've never used foobar before, when you're converting .flac that is the output format??

You can convert any of the following types; Wav, Ogg, Flac, MP3, MP4 and Musepack, as long as you've got the codec.
