Although I don't get involved in this sort of thing (to be honest I personally find it funny, but I know many people don't) I felt compelled today to say something when what appeared to be a fanboy/flame free thread was once again spoiled by another deliberately inflamatory remark, thus bringing the whole thread crashing down...
Now before I give my thoughts on this, it's worth nailing my 'colours' to the mast simply so that people know where I stand before they respond. I have a 360, purchased for the following reasons: -
1. There were lots of good games out for it at the point I bought it
2. Most of my friends had one, and I wanted to play online with them
I knew when I bought it it had reliability problems and also that the PS3 was just around the corner, but I still bought it because I weighed up the pros and cons and decided it was the best purchase for me at that time. However, looking at the stuff posted recently by both PS3 and 360 'fanboys', I can only assume the following reasons for the bitterness: -
Some PS3 owners are bitter because the 360 has got more games and a more active user base at the moment.
Some 360 owners are bitter because the PS3 is more reliable and has better functionality in certain areas (so I've heard) at the moment.
So, assuming that a year down the line a) there are plenty of games for the PS3 and b) the 360's reliability issues and missing functionality are sorted out, maybe, just maybe, there'll be less to bitch about. Let's be honest, the real reason people flame is out of insecurity/jealousy, and if both consoles were on an equal footing across the board, there'd be much less reason to do so.
Ultimately, the PS3 fanboys need to accept that sooner or later they'll have a decent range of games to choose from the 360 fanboys need to accept that sooner or later the console will be on an even footing in terms of functionality/reliability. In both cases they should just be happy that they've got a next generation console. Lots of people haven't (and probably would love one but can't afford it) so make the most of what you have, and learn to put up with any negatives that there are at the moment. If you're not happy with your console, buy a different one (or another one, if you're rich), but for heaven's sake don't come on here and flame other people who are happy with their lot.
Ok, rant off chest.
/me goes back under rock...
