Flash Player problems (supposedly)

Hi! I've recently upgraded my rig to a Z97-Pro and 4790k. I did a clean install of Windows 7 and everything works like a charm except Flash video playback... I can't get it to work no matter what I try. I've installed Firefox along with the newest Flash Player and the audio cuts out randomly during video playback on Youtube;/ I've tried about 20 archived Flash Player versions and I just seem to get different variations of the same issue. I've switched to and fro between Chrome, Firefox and Waterfox... When I use Chrome, videos load properly but they stop randomly even though there's still some buffer left. When that happens, they just buffer constantly and when I try to switch to a different video, it exhibits the same behaviour. I have to either restart Chrome or reboot the entire system to get it running again;/ I've noticed that the audio meters for my audio interface and Chrome freezes when the problem occurs. When I use Firefox and the newest Flash, the videos don't stop but the sound cuts out randomly. All of this usually happens within 10-30 minutes timeframe... I don't really know what to do and it's ****ing me off... I've had various issues with Flash but I've never experienced anything like this yet;/

I've reinstalled Windows 7 but the problem persists. I've also tried Opera but to no avail... When I play YT videos in Firefox the audio cuts out at random points and the video stops a short while after. I can restart it and it will run, but withouit sound. As I said, the audio meters in the mixer get stuck when this happens. Any idea what might be causing the problem? I really hope it's not the hardware;/ I've used the same audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) prior to changing the CPU/Mobo and adding an SSD. I don't really know how to go about finding a solution...

Woah, paragraphs :p.

  1. Does it work fine if you use your onboard audio?
  2. Are you using the latest drivers for you Focusrite Scarlett 2i4?
  3. Are you using the latest drivers for your video card?
  4. Have you tried plugging it into different USB ports? Generally the rear ones tend to be better than the fronts from what I remember

Sorry;p

1. I'll try it, thanks for the suggestion.

2. AFAIK, I have the latest drivers for the 2i4.

3. Yep, I even tried reverting to the ones I had on my previous setup.

4. It's plugged into a rear one but I'll try changing ports.

Thanks for the help! I tried to establish whether this is a software-related issue but I think it's about time I started checking the hardware.

I've plugged the interface into an another port and this appears to have solved the issue (at least in Firefox). I've also unplugged my earphones from the headphone amp on the Scarlett just to be on the safe side. I wonder what was wrong, though... The 2i4 was technically working on that other port without any problems and the drivers installed correctly.

I still have to do some testing and make sure the problem doesn't resurface. If you have some other suggestions as to what might have caused this, please do let me know. Maybe it was some dodgy Asus drivers or something?

Glad that it appears to be working :).

No idea why it wouldn't be working to be honest with you. My only guess may be that when you plug a USB device into another port it does reinstall the drivers and re-initiate it. Maybe the drivers/configuration that got applied to the first port somehow got messed up?

Does the 2i4 come bundled with some software that sits in your system tray or something? It may be that this reinitialisation has caused that to reset to defaults fixing a problem.

Thanks for your help, everything appears to be working:) I just have to check Opera and other browsers (having a bit too much on my plate today) but Firefox plays videos just fine, so I assume it should apply to the rest as well.

Yep, the drivers reinstall everytime I switch ports and it might've been the case that something went south the first time I plugged in the device. However, I decided to reinstall Windows again and the issue persisted the second time round (I don't exactly remember whether I had used the same port, though).

The Scarlett doesn't come bundled with any controlling software since the front panel provides hands-on control via knobs and switches for every important parameter. You just install a simple driver before plugging in the hardware and it pops up in the mixer window as an audio input (that's where I noticed that the audio levels for the Scarlett and the browser freeze when the problem occurs). Quite why that was happening is beyond me but it seems that the drivers for the Scarlett didn't get along with Flash especially well when the device was plugged into that particular USB port.

Thanks again!
