Got Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop but really struggling with full screen streaming video :(

Flash/Iplayer are just unwatchable in full screen but fine in normal mode - Vista didn't struggle at all - have tried v9 and the beta10 version with little improvement!

Any ideas?! :D

I've got the same problem on my computer with Q6600, 4 GB ram and 8800 Ultra. The problem seems to lie with flash player, and not the video drivers (as non-flash movies play well). I haven't found a solution myself tbh, and I'm not sure if it even exists at this point

Which flash player are you using? adobe? gnash?

I've found better performance from gnash, but it doesn't work with a lot of the latest flash movies

The official Adobe Mozilla plugin for Linux is terrible, especially if you're running the 32-bit plugin (the only one available) and the wrapper that makes it work with 64-bit Firefox. Gnash has better performance but is not as compatible. the sad part is that there's not much that can be done about it since it's wholly proprietary except for begging Adobe to treat Linux as a first class citizen.

i have 64bit Ubuntu and am able to watch/view most flash content fine. Even full screen.
Do you have a link to a site where it is difficult to view?

Complare playing BBC Iplayer full screen to it on a windows box, there is a big difference. (hopefully thats not just my setup :p)

youtube is fine though
Resolution and quality are probably major factors in decoding speed.

The sad thing is that most of these Flash interfaces are merely sitting between you and an MPEG-3 file on the media company's server. I'm quite certain the Sci-Fi channel uses the same sort of XviD-/MP3-encoded files that I might use if I ripped the DVD.

Quite.. youtube decoded/encode from just about any format into flash. It makes sense on their behalf, though, otherwise it would be a more "download then watch" than just "watch." And god forbid they streamed wmv's or avi's.
