lo peeps,

Does anyone know if the "high street" shops own flash (280D)
would work on a 300D?

Any help would be great :D

cheers

Andy

I've read that there was an issue with the older flash (280ABZ), but the new one (280D) has a low trigger voltage so it should be OK. I can't find any info on what the trigger voltate actually is, and doubt the monkeys in the shop would know though. Take a voltmeter with you and try it ;) Trigger voltage must be below 6 volts for Canon EOS cameras. All I can recommend is that you go down to the shop and try it out on your camera.

Also, do you realise that this flash will be manual? It's a non-dedicated unit, so you'll have to set it all up for ISO/distance etc. IIRC, anyway. You'll probably have to mess around with the camera setting and take it down a few stops too. I have to do this with my Cobra 700AF. It's a fantastic flash, it was free and I'm used to using it now, but I just thought it might annoy other users who don't want to fiddle around. I thought it was worth mentioning anyway :)

Thanks for that Lostkat, thats what i needed :)

Its coming to me very cheap so worth a gamble!!

Cheers

Just test it with a multimeter before you stick it on your cam!! :)

That's all I did with the Cobra 700AF to test it. This was before I found the Flash Compatability Chat. Unfortunately, your flash isn't on there. It's only the older version, which has >24volt trigger voltage. The 280D will be significantly below this because it's designed for digital cameras, but I don't have figures.

I have a cobra auto210 :)
freeby from parents
purchased a 430ex for my canon though, haven't regretted it since, never knew they would be so expensive when I got in this though
how much is this high street flash?
I bought a 220e for a tenner, just for something extra and it doesn't even fire with my 350D
