Flash Suggestions

While i've been trying to avoid using the flash on my 350D i'm starting to realise having a proper flash could be useful. I would idealy like the 580ex but it's a bit pricey so i was wondering whether it best to go for the 430ex or the sigma EF 500 SUPER DG. Any recomendations?

Also is it worth getting a bracket for the flash?

I have the Sigma flashgun that you mention and love it to bits. It can be found for half the price of a 580 so in my opinion is an absolute steal. It can also be used wirelessly with your 350d and has many options for power ratio`s (master to slave etc).

The 430EX is a nicer looking flash and built better, I don't like the battery door on the sigma as I've had many near death experiences with it!! thankfully the hinge never snapped off so with 10mins of fiddling managed to wedge it back in

430 vs 580EX review on a site I read a while back (think it was photo.net) stated that the 430EX is very similar to the 580 barring a few features and also slightly less powerful.


For the price the SIgma cannot be beat though, not the DG ST but the 500DG Super and it's spec is 580 range too.
