I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about flashguns and triggers..

All I know is I need to be able to use a couple of Nikon SB-910 Speedlights off camera.

My first instinct was to get a Nikon Wireless Speedlight Commander SU-800 however I've been told that I should look at some PocketWizard's for future proofing...

I've no idea what I'm looking for but guess a PocketWizard Plus III and a couple of PocketWizard FlexTT5 ?

My question is what is the best way to go and what are the pro's and con's for each ??

One of the biggest differences between triggers is as to whether they offer e-TTL (or whatever acronym each manufacturer uses). Its something which people shooting weddings, events and such are highly likely to want as you may need to trigger flashes remotely with subjects that aren't still.

If however you are shooting more static imagery, such as models or products and studio work, its likely you are going to be using manually set ratios on your lights anyway, so wouldn't be using e-TTL.

You pay more for triggers that will do e-TTL, with Pocketwizard being such a manufacturer. The higher priced on the market will also allow you ratio control with out having to move to your lights to adjust anything, which again might be useful, even if not using e-TTL.

Thanks for the reply, looking at the Pocketwizard they don't appear to support TTL (unless I'm looking at the wrong ones) and at the moment it is the Phottix Odin's that look the better option.

Mmm those YN 622 triggers are a good price but never heard of them... probably best if I just phone Wex and they can recommend something that meets my needs. I'd pick up the Phottix but it looks a bit big.

What camera are you using?

You can trigger the nikon sb series flash guns remotely using the on board flash from the camera and still retain ttl, saving the expense of 3rd party triggers.

You need a camera with on board flash though so might not be an option for you.

And on sight

I had the PW Flex system, 1 trigger, 2 receivers.

They did what they were designed to do, but it's a little awkward to use. One thing I keep getting caught out on is forgetting to turn them off after using them and the battery will be flat come next shoot, so I had spare battery always in my bag in case it happens.
