flash wont fire?

Hi guys,

Had my d600 for 2 weeks now and the flash has stopped working.

If I put it into auto mode, I half press the shutter and the flash pops up, I take the photo but the flash doesn't fire and the image is pretty much black.

I've tried another shooting mode where I can set flash to go every time but same thing happens, pops up but doesn't fire, picture comes out black.

Any suggestions?

I've tried it in the manual mode, creative mode and full auto mode, flash pops up but doesn't fire.

What mode makes it flash everytime?

It sounds like its a setting issue then, rather than hardware, otherwise it wouldn't work at all.

It doesn't work at all.

I put it it creative mode where you can set the flash to go every time, even then it pops up but doesn't fire.

I've reset all settings and still same, pops up but don't fire, images are dark :mad:

Think its broke.

Ah ok, the way you worded the later part of your post was confusing.

Try taking a shot in RAW and checking the EXIF data. If it tells you that flash has fired, when it hasn't, that should confirm if there's a problem with the flash tubes or circuitry.

If it says the flash hasn't fired, then it's more likely the flash is fine and you're stuck in a mode or setting that's using the flash as a wireless commander.
