How powerful is Flash? A colleague was telling me it's the way forward. I'm currently learning PHP and Javascripting, but I was thinking of delving into Flash/ActionScripting (I think thats the coding side of flash?). I'm not the most talented designer but I'm handy when it comes to code, if that makes a different.

I'd agree that flash is powerful, but it has been around for a long time and things seem to be heading more towards AJAX, while flash is good, I found it hard to maintain a website in Flash.
Anyway this is just my view of things and this is just my perspective which could be so so wrong.

Depends what you are using Flash for. It is very powerful - look at BBC iPlayer.
Flash is something that will probably be around for a long time, but then I'd imagine PHP and JScript too. AJAX has been around a while too.
My advice - learn Javascript, then have a look at actionscript, certainly AS2 is very similar. If you can get your head round that, you should be fine in Flash.
Also, no idea how old you are, but there is good money to be made in developing flash. If you had flash, php and a database skill, you'd be fighting employers off with a stick.
