Hi, driving along a familiar road tonight containing a speed camera I was overtaken by a BMW. He was zooming along until he saw the camera and then slowed down. I passed the camera and entered the white strips on the road area at 30mph and the BMW was nearly at the far end of the white strips. As he reached the end he accelerated away and the camera flashed 2x. Because we were behind him still in the white strip area our car will have been right in the centre of the photo.
How do I prove I was not speeding and it was the BMW driver instead. He might even have been slightly outside the white strips area when the 2 flashes occured but it was difficult to tell?

Won't matter. If you weren't speeding, your progress along the markings will prove this.

Yeah as long as you weren't speeding your fine, the camera takes 2 pictures so the distance can be measured between photos and your speed calculated. You will be fine.

What happens if he was flashed at but he was slightly outside the markings so the police do not have a reference point?

They'll be able to work out which car triggered the camera from the photos- nothing to worry about....unless you happend to be speeding too ;)

why would he be outside the markings if it was him who set it off... you would have to be doing over 170mph and the camera wont even flash from what i remember when they tested it on topgear.

As long as the camera is calibrated to take the two pictures the correct time period apart. We all know how unreliable and uncalibrated they are ;)

I got flashed by a camera when I was stationary in a traffic jam. The camera was activated by a motorcyclist speeding up the centre of the road. I got paranoid they would send the fine to me.
