Hi guys a have the bog standard xfx 7970 dd graphics card which i picked up for £280,
I was wondering if anybody on here has got one of these and flashed the bios to the more
expensive GHZ edition? Is it even possible?
I have been on the techpowerup bios database and im not sure which one to choose.
A little help and advice would be really cool.

Cheers

Why don't you just use afterburner or something like that? you can make it load the profile when windows starts, so your overclock will be always there.

Even using unofficial overclocking in afterburner its still voltage locked and i was hoping updating bios to the GHZ edition would solve this problem

When AMD released the GHz bios originally, it was just for reference models. Not sure if thats changed or not. If your XFX has a dual bios switch, you should be able to back out if you run into problems.

I flashed a reference XFX 7970 without any problems when they released it.

Yeah me too and through windows at that! Voltage locked will still be voltage locked. Ive had a few 7970s now and the whole GHZ edition thing is just a matter of bumping the sliders anyways as AMD were supere conservative on original clock speeds. Never had one that didnt hit 1050 at least.
