Hi I need to update the bios on my laptop but only have a CDROM drive. I've been on the HP website and there is a tool to update it with a winflash program but it's for a lower version only. The version I need only seems to be do able with a floppy but I don’t have an external one.

I’ve tried to use a bootable CD and the files on another CD but it can’t update due to himem.sys being present in the memory!

I have a PMCIA card with a CF card in, and apparently this is bootable. Could I use this to boot from and update the bios, if so how? As I’m running out of ideas.

Thanks,

I had a problem with a ASUS mobo, the onboard bios updater wouldnt accept USB devices (one of the problems that was fixed in a later BIOS).
I had to use an old 98 cd to boot into DOS to run the flash program. Anyway I digress, id just by and external floppy drive off ebay

Yeah i may give in and buy a usb floppy.

Thing about booting from a CD ROM is you must load a memory controller right? Eg HIMEM.SYS. That's the problem i'm having.
