Sorry to ask stupid questions but can anyone tell me how to flash my bios please. I have an Asus p7h55-m-usb3 motherboard and I have downloaded the latest bios fro Asus to a usb memory stick. The operators manual says just to insert in usb and the system will recognise its a bios update and it will be loaded. When I put the stick in the P/C recognises the stick and program on it but nothing happens. Help please

I can only try to point you in the right direction, I have no experience with bios updates from a usb....but

Do they mean restart your computer, make sure your boot order has usb drive first, then restart with the usb plugged in and the usb will boot and update the bios?

No it won't do it all itself, it will start up a seperate program which kinda looks like a mini bios, dunno how to describe it or what to call it.

It then asks you to locate the bios flash file, if its the only file on the usb that should be easy to find.

Bare in mind you will have to look for the usb drive amongst a list of all other drives connected up, but its easy enough, but scary the first time you do it.

if you go into the bios, in the tools tab you will find afudos along with the OC Profile utility.
afudos is the utility you need. it will detect the drives connected. all you have to do, is point it to the usb stick and the bios file.

---edit---
because it is not afudos you are looking for but EZ Flash.... my bad.

If it's anything like my ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 then all you need to do is grab the .ROM file from the website, copy it to your C: drive, then enter your BIOS and start "EZ Flash" from there. Navigate to the C: drive and tell it to load the firmware from the .ROM file you downloaded.

^^ this man is correct. it is called EZ Flash not afudos. afudos is a dos utility...
i am kinda absent minded today, my apologies.

Yeh thats all i ever do, saves rooting around for a pen drive lol.

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. I must be thick, I have followed the instructions about using EZflash and when I select the Asus file I downloaded I get a message "no update module found in file". Part of the instructions that you guys gave me said about unzipping the downloaded file- how do I do that please?.
The reason I want to flash my BIOS is because for some reason I don't understand I can no longer overclock, if I use the Auto overclock in A1 tweaker, the system will not boot or if I try to alter the clock or multiplier it will not boot either. The only way the system will boot is with everything set to Auto. Any ideas ( I have been trying for two days now )
thanks

flash using asus update in windows worked a charm for me if u cant get the mem stick option to work

i know a few on here crap there pants when it comes to flashing in windows but i have never had any probles doing it that way in fact i have probly flashed motherboard more times through windows than through dos and not had a bad flash ever with any option

I'm fine with flashing from Windows but I didn't know it was possible for my board. All BIOS updates are just a .ROM file. Is the Windows flasher in the Utilities section on the download site?

Don't do it. Seriously, Asus windows bios flashing software is crap and a lot of people have been left with useless boards doing it this way.

If the file you downloaded is zipped then right click on it and select unzip to 9wherever you are going to put it). Personally a USB stick is best. Leave the stick in the slot and reboot the pc. On post hit Alt + F2 to load EZ-Flash. Select the bios you want to flash to and let it do it's thing.

Yes dragon it's in the utility section

No way of flashing the Bios is 100% safe but like I said never had a problem with Asus boards and I have flashed a few in this way

By the way the auto clocker on Asus is crap better to set it to manual give me your spec and speed u want and I'll give u some settings to try

+1 I also have an asus mobo, and that is exactly what you do. Don't use the software from inside windows. Always flash from the bios itself when windows isn't running. You can use a flash drive if you wish, but the C: drive is just as easy.

EZ flash from a usb drive, best way to flash the bios on an asus board, do not ever use the windows based utility, i learned the hard way, killed an s939 board using it.

USB ease of use. USB way down load winrar and install easy utility to use. Down load rom file and exstract to your USB stick reboot and enter easy flash should automatically load the new bios

Can't be any easier

Hi, thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. If I tell you exactly what I have done to try to update the BIOS perhaps someone can tell me where I have gone wrong. Went to Asus website, found bios updates for my motherboard ( P7H55-M-USB3 ) there were 6 of them, chose the most recent and downloaded to both HDD and USB Stick. Went to the EZflash in Tools and selected the BIOS file that was on the HDD. When I clicked on it I had a progress bar going across the screen, then a messge that said " NO UPDATE MODULE FOUND IN THE FILE " What have I done wrong?
Hello HLENNIE thanks for your offer, my system is :
Asus P7H55-M-USB3
Intel i3 530
4Gb Dominator DDR3 1600 Mhz
Akasa Venom cooler.
At the moment my settings are:
Multiplier 21
Bclock 193
V core 1.26
V dram 1.65
Dram Frequency 1577 Mhz.
Temps are : idle about 30 C and running Prime 95 about 55C
This gives me 4.053 Ghz, seems stable.
The above are all with the A1 clocker in manual.
I originaly ran the overclock using the Asus Auto Overclock utility, but now for some reason if I try the Auto setting the system will not boot and I have to do it manually which I am not very good at ( first PC I have built ) I have cleared the cmos, but still the Auto won't work. Last thing, what does the CPU offset voltage do and should I be using it ?
Thanks for all the help

The bios file that you DL is a compressed file.

Right click on it and extract it to a temp file. The extracted .Rom file is the one that you need to copy to your usb drive :)

PS. the usb drive needs to be formatted in FAT :)
