Hey,

I've had this Hannsg HG281D for about a year and a half now and I've had issues with it before with the odd bunch of colored flashing pixels in the corner that a simple off then on would fix however now it's been getting a lot worse and is happening all over the place but it's quite intermittent. Also lately the monitor has been flickering on and off quite a few times when I first start up my PC although it seems to have stopped the last few days.

Any suggestions, or should I go right ahead and return it?

You could try a different gfx card and cable just to be absolutely sure that it's soley the monitor at fault.

But the fact that you cured some of your problems by turning the monitor on and off does seem pretty damning.

(You could also make sure you have up to date gfx and monitor drivers but this doesn't sound like a driver issue TBH.)

I've changed my GPU from when it was happening earlier on, had a 6870 and now have a 6970, I'm running 11.10 so my drivers are up to date. I could try fiddling with cables, at the moment I have it going through a 3 port switcher but it happened before when I was plugged directly into my monitor. It does seem quite intermittent, sometimes it's okay and others it can be quite bad.

I guess I could try using my PS3 or watching TV on it to see if it really is the monitor, don't really notice it when watching TV but I'm normally in bed then!

The flickering screen problem sounds like it may be 'backlight inverter' related. It's a really common problem in laptops, i've had to change a few in my time but never in a dedicated monitor - to date.

If you google 'laptop inverter' you'll get a general idea of the problem - and it may be worth swapping out the inverter in your monitor if it's a cost effective gamble for you?

I think I'll get in touch with Hannsg directly and see what they say, I did a little typo in the first post and the monitor is 2.5 years old so it is only covered by the manufacture warranty.

I think the flickering might have been an unrelated driver issue, it only happened when I upgraded to 11.9 and seems to have stopped since recently installing 11.10, time will tell I guess!

Thanks for your help ;)
