Hello,

I realise there is many people that I have obtained a Sky DG834GT and flashed a Netgear firmware onto the router for other ISPs.

Having obtained this router I am now in the process of trying to complete this.

I have found many guides linked below but every time load the recovery tool, select my network card the router is not found.

Links:

http://www.jjclements.co.uk/2007/09/30/sky-router-dg834gt-unlock/

I am currently running Windows 7 64 Bit and I have tried to run these in compatibility mode and as administrator which has had no effect!

Has anyone got any experience flashing these with Windows 7?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

I wouldn't bother using the recovery tool to upload the new firmware, its a pain in the bum on Windows 7 64-bit, looks like a bug as I and many others could not get it to work, much much easier to do it through the routers web console (192168.0.1), log on using router admin account

Make sure you connect a laptop to the router VIA AN ETHERNET CABLE (IE dont use wireless).

Log on to the router and there will be a section called "Router update" just do it from here, you will be able to select the firmware image file you are wanting to use.

Make sure you are not using the DGTeam firmware 1018 as this could brick your router, I use 1014 and have had no issues, other people prefer to use 1012.

Unfortunately I have tried this already and had no luck.

I get an error saying 'Incorrect or corrupt image file' I imagine this is due to the Sky firmware not allowing upgrades of any sort.

I thought that was the whole point of following the flash procedure?

Edit: I am trying to load the latest firmware from the NG site itself.

It's been awhile since I flashed my DG834GT, but I remember having problems with the recovery tool you're using.

I think it has issues with certain combinations of hardware/operating system. I ended up having to flash the router using my laptop running Windows XP. It didn't like the network card in my desktop PC for some reason.

If you have another PC to try it on I would recommend that.

IIRC You cannot upgrade from Sky branded firmware to DGTeam, you first must debrand Sky firmware back to Netgears own firmware, then you upgrade to DGTeams firmware.

There shouldnt be any problems loading the firmware from the routers web interface, this is the way I have done it for years, however I have always had issues when using their recovery tool

i flashed my sky dg834gt using the recovery tool on win 7 32bit. it wouldn't work on my desktop but did on my media pc which has a nvidia chipset, have a look at the forums over at skyuser.co.uk thats where i learned how to flash my router.

I dont know why people use the recovery console tbh, far more trouble than its worth.

I can upgrade my config through the web interface in a few clicks, no hassle.

If its not updating through here then something is wrong. As mentioned above, I would debrand your sky branded router back to netgears firmware before updating to DGTeam.

I've never had success flashing a Sky router with DGT or even Netgear f/w through the web interface (when Sky f/w is still on it).

The recovery software only works properly under XP really, you can get it running under Vista / 7 if you tick "compatibility mode" but it's very hit and miss.

The other thing to do if you only have one NIC card is to install a virtual loopback NIC driver, this stops the program crashing when it tries searching for your router (more info here: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/aski...34gt-router-using-vista-anyone-done-it-2.html ).

First iv heard of the web interface being a problems then, iv been doing it happily for about 4 years :\

But yeh, its not going to like Windows 7 so if your going down the recovery tool way then xp 32 bit.

If that doesnt work then maybe try a telnet to the router and upload the config file via TFTP, never tried it myself but im not sure as iv never had to go through this
