Evening all!

I'm looking to update my BIOS and upon looking at the drivers page on evga's site (update p28) the instructions seem very simple i.e:

Download the following executable: NF68_P28.exe
Insert blank floppy disk into drive and run executable
Restart machine, and set floppy as the primary boot device
Press "Y" to program BIOS
After flash, power off PC completely, on reboot load defaults in BIOS

As you are probably already aware my knowledge of such practices is quite limited an although I have spent hours trying to find more info on the subject the processes vary, and tbh I'm quite literally scared witless of having to do this without having done it before
Do i literally do as is written or is there more to it??
Is there anyone with said board who could enlighten me?

Cheers fellas :D

looks like you are well prepared to flash, go for it, do as you've written,

i tend to save and exit after loading defaults, just in case sort of thing.

when doing my BFG version, it wouldn't boot to the floppy, so i had to create a bootable floppy 1st, boot to that, switch disks, then run the flash program, but i think i may have just been being a ****...

....or just burn the bin file to a CD and hit Alt F2 continually at boot until the flash utility kicks in. Remember to set your bios to default before flashing btw.

Well I created the floppy.... set boot priority.....
and rebooted with buttocks clenched no less.
Flash utility came up with a warning saying something along the lines of the program not matching the system.

My finger was poised on enter......... but i thought best not to risk it :D

I then thought "hmmm even though my board is an evga, I did get my pc from alienware therefore it may be slightly different?"

Upon checking the drivers section on their website it seems they are using there own drivers and are only on p24 at the moment. DOH!

Not only that but I void my warranty unless i get it updated with an alienware rep to hold my hand! :o

Oh the humility.

Does seem odd though, I mean the board being evga yet not if that makes sense?!?

I used this Method went i flashed my P28 evga bios

CD Method (Blank CD and CD Rewritable Drive Required)

Download the following .iso file: NF68_P28.iso ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P28.iso
Use a CD Burning software to burn the .iso image onto a blank CD (Nero, Alochol 120%, etc)
Restart machine, and set the CD Drive as the primary boot device
The BIOS flash process will begin, Press “Y” to program BIOS
After flash remove the CD, power off PC Completely
Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

if u use the flash software, theres a comand to save the bios thats been used. save that then atleast if other hardware fails in time what what ever reson. u can flash back.

boot to dos with that flobby. dont run flash exe but try typing help. thatmight come up with alistof commands. might not be tho. long time since had to do oldschool.

as for the board and alien. if taking right from whatu said. its common most use well named boards. ie dell others. but the change the bios a little. some take out options so u cant mess or add there own boot screens. that sort of thing.

If its an EVGA 680i board it should flash fine regardless of what bios is on it now. You can force flash it (-f) but I would do some investigating first to see what board you actually have. Is it the LT version or even a 650i?

I'm pretty sure its a 680i as the manual supplied with it states its part no on front (NF68) how else can i check to make sure it is? Surely alienware wouldn't stitch me up by putting a lesser board in? That would be fraud!

Ok just opened her up and part no is: 122ck-nf68-br. Also says 680i next to it that so must be then :D
Although don't know what the br stands for? maybe its a custom made board for alienware builds as it does show the logo when booting? Just gotta wait for alienware to get back to me now i guess.
Maybe I don't even need to flash, after all I'm not getting sata problems.
If it ain't broke etc ;)
