flashing firmware on drive in a mac book

just wondering if anyone flashed the firmware on there drive on a mac book to make it RPC1 and to remove the riplock on the drive?

I prevs have flashed pc drives to make them apple bootable, but worried that if I flash the drive in the mac book it will stop the osx burning software making use of it and worst make it a non mac bootable drive.

Its a shame that apple sticks one of the worst drives (IMHO) in the there machines. The matshita UJ-857 is the biggest piece of rublish and is pointless having in my laptop; I should have gone for the combi drive. The lack of dye support, no raw reading and no RPC1 code and to top it off theres no firmware to make it better.
