I'm very new to overclocking, and just want to overclock my i7 2600k to 4ghz for now. Having noticed a few artifacts while playing Skyrim in forested areas with MSAA enabled, I figured I'd check out the stability of my cards.

I have 2 GTX 560 Ti's running in SLI (both with 2GB VRAM), and I used a Burn In test on Furmark. Within 60 seconds my cards were reaching 90 degrees and after another 30 seconds my screen was flickering with purple flashes and the information panels displaying GPU temps etc were flickering on and off as well.

This is at stock speed, with the latest drivers, running in fullscreen at native resolution. Surely that can't be normal?

I have no idea what that means, other than that it has 1000 Watts. Certainly should be plenty for my GPUs, no?

PSU is more than up to the job. It seems your graphics cards are overheating its weird that both reach 90.c.. Do you have decent case cooling.. ?
 
Probably not =(

It's a Fractal R3, built for quiet gameplay with loads of sound dampening. To counter the extra heat a second card would be adding, I purchased and installed two Noctua fans (respected name, and also built for silence without losing capability). So I have two front intakes, one rear exhaust, and one top exhaust. Makes the system a little noisier than it should be, but it's still significantly quieter than my last rig.

Could that be the issue? Even with 4 fans for cooling? My CPU is water cooled, ready for overclocking, but perhaps I overestimated the cooling for my cards...
 
I would have thought two intake and two exhaust fans would be ample cooling if they push a decent amount of air.
Have you tried testing both cards individually and seeing what temps and stability you get ?
 
Disabling SLI (so testing only the first GPU) led to a normal result I think. Temp didn't raise any higher than 85 degrees, and there wasn't any screen flashing. Is there any way to test the second card without swapping their positions around in the case?
 
Is this a new sli set up, have you recently added a card or have you had them running fine for a while? How far apart are the 2 gpu slots?
 
Hmmm, not sure. I'll buy some pressurized air today and see if that helps. With any luck that will help.

Might also be worth mentioning that my computer routinely freezes within the first 10 minutes of booting up. So I turn it on, log in, start browsing the web / working /gaming, and within 10 minutes the whole thing will lock up. It lasts between 30 and 120 seconds, no longer. It's become so routine that I just make a coffee or something when it starts. Never happens twice in one session, and always within the first 10 minutes. Not sure if it's related, but I thought I'd mention it.

Dont **** a fan up if you are using anything greater than a can of air, if using a compressor hold any fans to stop them moving while you do it.

Just ran a test in OCCT, and after 1 minute 16 seconds the application force-closed because one of my scores exceeded 85 degrees in temp. I didn't see any screen flashing.

Think it's worth raising my max temp to 90 and running a test again? I'm not sure how damaging these high temps can be to a GPU's life expectancy. Even with Battlefield 3 maxed out with MSAA I don't see my GPUs even getting to 80 degrees. I've set my fans up to contain temps at 70 degrees.
 
OCCT does get hotter than usual, but if it's hot enough to be closing things down then it looks like temp may be ur problem.

And by OCCT test i meant GPU test as I assumed your CPU was fine. Worth using both. But keep in mind that OCCT easily hikes temps higher than any sane program (other than furmak perhaps?)

So airflow isn't good enough? If I run the test with my computer open (the side board taken off) should that result in tests running fine if it's just airflow and temp issues?

And yep, I ran the GPU test.
