Im trying to flash my buffalo Whr hp g54 with tomato but all i keep getting is this when using the batch file..

ive followed all the instructions exactly as far as i can see. Why cant i just install the firmware through the routers interface

tftp refers to trivial ftp

it sounds like your missing the program or the binaries for tftp

have you read the readme or the faq for the tomato firmware as that should give you full instructions on what to do

did you follow the instructions as shown on wiki? i flashed mine a while back and remembered it was such a pain but finally flashing it and it hasn't crashed once :)

* Plug your computer directly to the router's LAN port. This will not work over a wireless connection.

* Set your computer's ethernet card settings to: IP=192.168.11.2, mask=255.255.255.0, gateway=192.168.11.1 (Gateway and DNS settings are optional and not needed to flash Tomato). In Windows, you can set this by going to Control Panel, Network Connections, right-click your ethernet card, click properties, then TCP/IP.

* Plug in your router and quickly enter this in a DOS window. "tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put tomato.trx" It will return Timeout if it failed or Transferred if it was successful.

* Make sure you are unplugging/replugging the router's power cable (not ethernet cable). There's about a quick 3-5 second window when router is booting up where you can send a install a new firmware. If you miss that and the old firmware boots, you'll get a continous "ping ... tftp ... ping ... tftp". Unplug, wait a few seconds and try again. Might be tricky to get the timing right...

* After waiting for at least 2 minutes after the initial flash, with the power still on, push the reset button for one full minute to reset the configuration. Release the reset button and allow the unit to boot up before trying to access it.

* Your router is now at the address of 192.168.1.1 which you can access by manually changing the computer back to 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1 and DNS 192.168.1.1, or simply set your computer back to DHCP (Obtain Automatically in the TCP/IP properties).

* The tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put code.trx process involves the manual hit and miss timing of running a ping loop and hitting enter at just the right time during the power up sequence. The provided batch file eliminates this hectic method of flashing and has rendered it obsolete. Use the Tomato batch file that is included with the Tomato firmware to flash all compatible Buffalo routers. If you get timeout errors copy the tftp.exe file from Windows/System32/ into the same directory as the .bat and .trx files so the system can find tftp.exe faster.

'tftp' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

As far as i can see ive done everything else right? would running vista be the cause?

cheers for help so far

i get that if i try and use dos

i flashed mine with xp, in your case vista does not seem to recognise the TFTP program can you check thats it's installed.

As far as I can tell, tftp isn't installed by Vista as standard. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off > TFTP client, then try again :)

fantastic thanks!

Just whacked it all in and its working ok, quite a bit different and just trying to work my way round it.

also ive put in the open dns details as well.

havnt noticed if its faster or not and my standard firmware in the buffalo never crashed either.

gonna set up the qos thing, im guess that means that if there is torrent seeding going on my http traffic can be set to get priority

is there like any instructions anywhere? ive looked but unless im blind cant see any?>

Im trying to get the QOS going so i can be seeding at full speed then when i use http that gets priority but it just seems to slow u torrent right down when ever i have a web page open even im just reading a page

right guys i still need help with this, ive reflashed with the latest firmware

yet the wireless is still crap, ive tried 4 wireless cards and a usb one and the wii and they all loose signal on and off.

where as before the flash with the normal firmware they were fine.

if some one could almost do a walk through on the wireless protocalls i should be using ie....security config and everything like that so i can make sure that i have both the laptop an dthe pc set up the same
