Hi all, i've got an Asus X800XT-PE AGP and i've overclocked it in the past. It's at stock now, but i was just wondering if i'm able to flash the bios to anything? I dont mind if the performance boost isnt amazing.. I just wanna give it a go.

I just need to know what are the risks in doing it, and if it doesnt work what will happen?

Also from this list, which one is the correct download? The bios i have at the moment or the one i want to flash it to? http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/

Thanks :)

I was informed that the x800xt was r423 which is a higher end part than r430, r423 is what the bios says my connect 3d gto @16 pipes is. I flashed it with r480 but I didnt do a before and after comparison of 3dmark so it was pretty pointless in the end. I flashed it back when I was informed that r423 was from x800xt, and indeed a higher end chip than r430.

Id say the safest thing is to clock your own bios higher, by editing it, since vivo and non vivo bios are incompatable and also the fan power is different on the x850. You hear a lot of ati silencers fans die when people flash x850 bios, and ATItool has a specific setting (a toggle ) when using x850. Its probably using some pulse width modulation, whereas earlier cards are different.

Having said that, you might want to ask on techpowerup! forums cause Im guessing half of this. ;)

Hey megatron

It sounded right so i just wait till some other people answer aswell :) In the end i think i'll just clock it to X850 speeds myself.. probably safer.

Thanks
