Hello,

because I didn't find answer on web I am turning to you.

I have a question about flashing my Powecolor 7950v2 into R9 280.
I know they are practly the same, but I want to see R9 280 when 3D Mark is over.
Is it possible to flash 7950 into R9 280? What do I have to care? What need to be the same - Subystem ID only or something else to?

On the left side is my BIOS from 7950 (which was already moded for higher freq - I am not new to flashing modded BIOS), in the center and right are 2 BIOS from the same company (Powecolor) but from R9 280, I downloaded them from: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?architecture=AMD&manufacturer=&model=R9+280&interface=&memType=&memSize=
Does anyone of those 2 match my 7950?

Thank you for help.

Greeting from Slovenia :)

I know there is no befenit as I already said it...but it is all about personal satifcation because of "achiving something".

Hope you understand.

When I flashed my 7970s into 280xs everything changed including the names. Just make sure the RAM modules are compatible with the bios and everything should be good. Does the 7950 have duel bios? I would not bother flashing it if it does not.

About RAM modules...as you can see my 7950 have Hypix H5GQ2H24MFR, EDW2032BBBG and other 2 have Hypix H5GQ2H24AFR, EDW2032BBBG - this is not 100% the same (the 2nd "EDW2032BBBG" is the same but not 1st). Can this make problems?

I have dual BIOS, but still I do not have a reserve card to repair it...

It list two memory types because that model can either have Hynix or Elpida memory. You can check this using GPU-z.

If it's Elpida, then the memory types are the same.

Make sure that Powercolor BIOS is from the same line of Reference PCB's

I tried to update my Powercolor PCS+ 290 BIOS to a newer one from the same type of Powercolor card and borked it....

Turns out the newer BIOS was from the same line of cards but a Rev-2 PCB where as mine was Rev-1, the later Rev-2 has one more power phase than mine and so it didn't work with my PCB.

Lucky for me the higher end AMD cards have dual BIOS as reference.
