Flat Sound :(

Hi folks!

I have an Asus Crosshair Formula IV motherboard with onboard "X-Fi" but the sound is...well..flat. I'm using Corsair HS1A Headphones and the mid to high (treble) sounds muted. It was the same on my old Plantronics .audio 90 headphones.

I read on a few sites that the sound-chip on the Crosshair is actually a Via, but with Creative software on top of it to give it the "X-Fi" but to be honest i aint liking this sound at all. I put my old Audigy 2 ZS into the PC and noticed a slight difference in the audio via the headset, slightly clearer midtones but the bass was still lacking slightly.

I aint bought a new soundcard since buying the Audigy 2...will i notice any difference via the headphones? I aint too worried about the speakers since i use headphones almost all the time.

To be fair one of the major criticisms of the HS1A 'phones is the lack of bass, so I suspect that buying another sound card isn't going to quite do all that you're after.

Although some people have complained about the lack of bass from the Corsair's, someone mentioned it improved with some EQ'ing.

I had the Hs1 (usb version) and yep the lack of bass was awful. I ended up sending them back and getting about 3-4 diff pairs and sneding them all back under the distance selling law. It seems Most headphones have a lack of bass

i ended up going for Hd555 which were.. good but well over priced (please dont hit me HD555 fans lol)

However.. i do feel you would see some improvment getting a soundcard and changing the bass in the Eq up some and messing about with it. It wont be a WOW improvment but it will deff have the "OOo.. thats better" effect.

Should do anyway.
