A friends of mine is having terrible migraines (stay with me!) and believes its to do with the refresh rate of his PC (he’s resigned from his last job due to these – so pretty debilitating).

He’s tried a 120Hz monitor, but I’m not convinced he’s actually set this up correctly. Other than just plugging into a PC and setting the refresh rate to 120Hz is there anything else to achieve a “flicker free” monitor?

This is regarding the desk top and 2D, not gaming...

Any tips / advice appreciated.

LCD flickering has nothing to do with "old" flickering well known from CRTs where picture has been "halved in time" and frames was displayed alternately = which caused a headache.

I'd rather check the contrast, brightness, noise level including ultra sounds like coil whines, and blue LED light saturation (newest LCD models do have option to reduce blue LED light just because it's proved blue light causes macula lutea degeneration in your eye). Maybe it's good idea to visit some ophthalmologist.
