Why is this? I don't think I've had this issue with my laptop which is connected via a VGA to VGA cable, though I do notice a mild flickering when darker colours such as dark greys are on the screen when using my XBOX 360, connected via a DVI-D to HDMI cable from Amazon? Is it likely to be the cabble, how do I know it won't happen with the next cable?

How long is the cable? Sounds like an interference problem which could be due to the cable being too long and/or not being shielded well enough.

From my personal experience this is more likely to occur with VGA cables than it does with DVI/HDMI cables. You never know that is not going to happen with a new cable, chances are rather slim of it happening again though. You could however pay extra attention to the shielding this time.
Don't buy into the 'gold plated' crap, if they used and the price is okay it's fine. If they used it and charge £50 for a single 2m cable they're just making crazy profit margins and you'll have a cable that isn't actually better than the majority of <£10 cables.

With a Samsung monitor I've had a flickering image due to the dynamic contrast acting a bit silly after a few years. If your monitor has an option to disable the dynamic contrast ratio you could give that a go.

Thanks for reply Axeia..... I've been reading around and found it might be a problem with the settings on my 360..... apparently people can who have experienced this problem, just from looking around on various forums, have simply altered the HDMI colour dpace setting on the 360, however I don't have the option to do this since the 460 recognises the signal as DVI-A....

Anyone? It does not happen with the 1280x720 res setting, only 1920x1080 which is a bit funny since the native res of the monitor is the latter?

Unless your tv does a ****** job at upscaling that isn't too bad to be honest. 99% of the games are running at that resolution or even lower anyway. You're just doing the upscaling on the TV rather than on the console itself.
(A list with native resolutions can be found elsewhere)

Yes that's the thing, I'm also very disappointment by the quality of image when I hook my XBOX 360 up. The main issue is that "jaggies" are very apparent - I have read somewhere that maybe my monitor is just too sharp? I did turn the sharpness levels down to zero but still the jaggies are very apparent. Is this the fault of the upscaling in the monitor? How can I sort it?
